Instruction
Whether leading programs at a public library or teaching college courses at an academic library, instruction is something nearly every librarian will have to take on.
Statement
Before one begins teaching, one needs a philosophy. My teaching statement was crafted for my Instructional Strategies course and summarizes my belief in the importance of equipping people with essential skills through active learning. In my course in Information Literacy, I learned how important information literacy is in today's technology- and information-driven world and in the importance of critical thinking skills. I plan on developing information literacy programs for library users.
Lesson Plan
I created this instructional model for my course in Instructional Strategies. This model is designed as a one-shot lecture for college freshmen to showcase the information services and resource provided by the library. This sample plan includes clearly defined learning objectives, tasks, and evaluation methods. It also focuses on the different teaching methods and learning styles I will be drawing on to present this instruction. Before presenting any instruction, developing such a lesson plan is a necessary step for effective learning.
Worksheet
I designed this critical thinking worksheet for my Instructional Strategies course. In preparing a brief teaching session in front of the class, I used this worksheet to guide critical thinking when it comes to evaluating online resources. The detailed evaluation provided by this worksheet is helpful for students, patrons, and even librarians in determining the veracity of online information and resources. Creating similar tools is something I hope to do for the library patrons.
